E-Rate at a Glance

The schools and libraries universal service support program, commonly known as the E-rate program, helps schools and libraries to obtain affordable telecommunications services, broadband Internet access and internal network connections.

E-rate lends this support by subsidizing the cost of the aforementioned services, by up to 90% for schools and libraries. E-Rate discounts are determined based on the poverty level of the population the applicant serves and whether the applicant is located in a rural or urban area. E-rate is the largest government educational technology program, with a yearly budget of $2.4 billion dollars.
